Elementary Math in La Canada

Overview

There are three K–6 elementary schools within the La Cañada Unified School District (LCUSD) — La Cañada Elementary School (LCE) , Palm Crest Elementary School (PCR), and Paradise Canyon Elementary School (PCY.)   All three schools are considered high performing public schools within the state of California, having been recognized as California Distinguished Schools in 2014 (LCE and PCR also received the award in 2010) and ranking in the top 1% of public elementary schools statewide†.

All three elementary schools use the same math curriculum for grades K–6. This page describes the current curriculum in use since the 2016-17 school year — Everyday Mathematics (EM) from McGraw-Hill for grades K–5, Math In Focus for 6th grade, as well as the controversial history behind the selection of EM in the district:
